AIMS
The topic that will be addressed is the relationship between decision and time, an interdisciplinary object of study for psychology, economics, and other social sciences. More specifically, the Summer School intends to address questions such as: How do past and future affect our ability to take a present decision? To what extent can time be a binding variable throughout the whole decisional process? How many times do we look back and re-evaluate past decisions in the light of the new information provided by the same decisions? How much is this retrospective look accompanied by peculiar emotional experiences? What factors do influence our previsions and expectations about what can follow our decisions?
The aim of the second edition of the Summer School is to go into such points providing participants with the opportunity of:
a) attending high-level lectures followed by open and full discussions of the issues addressed;
b) working actively in small groups on specific topics provided by the lecturers, and
c) presenting their own research projects in order to have constructive feedback from the lecturers and from the audience.
The general goal is to foster the circulation of new ideas and methodologies and to promote the establishment of contacts among participants.
The Summer School will be structured as follows.
Main lectures: They will deal with a specific issue related to the general theme. Reading materials will be provided before the Summer School starts. Participants will be engaged in an open exchange of questions and comments with the lecturer.
Working groups: Participants will work in small groups on a research topic provided by each lecturer and then share ideas in plenary.
Workshops: Participants will present their research projects, which will be the object of discussion in the group and will be supervised by at least one of the lecturers. Projects will be grouped in thematic sessions, each concerning a specific issue.
Research focuses: Local organisers will present pieces of research to stimulate discussion and critical reflection.
A website and a platform will support the activities of the Summer School. Papers and research projects, as well as the profiles of the participants, will be uploaded on the platform so as to allow people to share personal and scientific knowledge before the Summer School starts and to further discuss the topics through a forum once the Summer School is ended.
